"People person" Jo celebrates 104th birthday

A resident at the St Monica Trust's John Wills House care home recently celebrated her 104th birthday with family and friends.

Born in 1919 on Broadmead’s Philadelphia Street, Jo Box lived in Filton Grove all her married life before moving into Westbury Fields retirement village in 2005. She has two surviving children, ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Always the life and soul of a party, Jo is described by daughter, Janet as: “a real people person,” who used to enjoy going out dancing with her beloved husband, Clifford.

Janet puts her mum’s longevity down to a love of the outdoors, lots of walking, cycling and regular exercise. She has also never smoked and only drinks in moderation.

Jo’s room was decorated by the Beeches team for her birthday and the John Wills House catering team baked her a magnificent vanilla sponge cake.

All three generations of Jo’s family, came to visit on her special day, with 103 years and six months separating Jo from her youngest great grandchild, Willoughby.

Janet said: “Mum doesn’t get out of bed so much these days, which was a shame because I’m sure she would’ve loved to have been up there dancing, like she did on 100th birthday.

"Mum had a lovely day and she really enjoyed herself. We can’t thank the staff at the Beeches enough for all they did. It was fantastic!”
