Dementia day service
For you and your loved ones
Each day in our dementia day service is based around the individuals attending and supported by our expert dementia team. Located in the leafy surroundings of our Westbury Fields retirement village, we provide respite for families or friends who provide care for someone who is living with dementia. The service currently operates from Monday to Friday and offers personalised support in safe and stimulating surroundings.
Over two years you have helped Joe have happy times and brought great comfort to me. Trusting someone to care for your loved one is very difficult. Knowing how much you care about all those who attend your service has helped me and my family have more trust in other care settings.
A warm welcome
The dementia day service has a warm and inviting environment with its own entrance and patio area. It’s somewhere calm that offers reassurance and there’s a separate room where people can go to enjoy quieter activities, such as knitting or reading. We provide refreshments throughout the day and delicious meals are freshly prepared at the onsite, Somerville restaurant.
Fun and aspiration
When you first arrive the day starts with a meet and greet session, so you get used to the surrounding and get to know everyone else attending. Above all else the day service is a place of fun. We offer a range of stimulating activities from travelling reminiscence bus tours to baking sessions and quizzes. The great thing about being part of a larger retirement community is that we can make full use of all the wonderful facilities at Westbury Fields. There are beautiful gardens to enjoy during walks and a cricket pitch for ball games in fair weather.
Getting to know you
We usually arrange a home visit before you first attend, so we can find out as much as we can about you. This ensures we meet your personal needs and help you get the most out of every day. We offer a free taster day if you’d like to find out whether the dementia day service is right for you.
Expert care and support
The service is run by Julia Jones who has over 20 years’ experience in domiciliary care. All our staff are trained to the highest standards and offer invaluable support for those caring for people with dementia. We want those who care for people with dementia to feel happy and secure that their loved-one is in a place where they’ll be well looked after. Transport is available for those that live in the BS9 and BS10 areas and for people living outside these areas, other arrangements can be made.
