The Beeches is the Trust’s specialist respite nursing care home which offers respite care for older people in the wider Bristol area. Situated in John Wills House at our Westbury Fields Retirement Village, we find that the many individuals who use our service do so for a variety of reasons:
Respite Care
The St Monica Trust understands the needs of carers, for whom the respite care unit offers the opportunity for them to take a break and recharge their batteries with complete assurance that their loved one is being cared for in a sensitive, safe and welcoming environment.
There’s no wonder a high proportion of people come back to us time and time again. They can do so because we take advanced bookings in order that people can plan for holidays or trips to hospital for treatment or surgery. Equally, admission by responsive staff at relatively short-notice can often provide a lifeline for individuals who have limited alternatives available to them.
Reablement, rest and recuperation
For many people, there is often a need for short-term care following a recent operation or illness. The Beeches can offer a programme of reablement and convalescence with the support of a dedicated and skilled team which includes specialist nurses and physiotherapists.
Similarly, The Beeches can provide a process of rest and recuperation for those older people who need support and care to stop their situation deteriorating. With appropriate care, individuals can be assisted to regain physical health and confidence at a pace tailored to suit them. In this way, people return home to carry on with day to day life.
Cath Bant used The Beeches for post-operative care and reablement. Initially she felt worried because it was unknown territory. “But now I wouldn’t think twice about coming back – it was so much more than I’d expected. Everyone makes you feel welcome. I don’t know what I would have done without it – it was almost like going on holiday!”
