Care and Support at Home

Our services

Meeting the needs of a changing society
In recent years, the Trust has undertaken a review of its activities and has recognised it is necessary to offer a wide range of services, whilst at the same time taking the opportunity to expand its operation to support a greater number of people.

Retirement/Sheltered Accommodation
At the St. Monica, Cote Lane site, the Trust provides retirement/sheltered accommodation to over 100 people. A further 71 apartments are now for sale through the St. Monica lease purchase scheme. There are a number of show homes at Cote Lane that are currently available to view.

Nearby, at Westbury Fields retirement village, a range of almost 100 brand new retirement/sheltered apartments have been completed. Also available to purchase through the St. Monica lease purchase scheme, only a small number of these purpose-built apartments remain available for reservation.

On both sites, the Trust is expanding its service to offer assisted living for residents who occupy retirement/sheltered accommodation, so that they can continue to live independently with the reassurance that care is on hand if it is ever needed.

Very Sheltered Housing
The concept of Very Sheltered Housing (VSH) or 'Extra care' as an alternative to residential care has become a very important part of the St. Monica Trust's services, following the development of our first VSH scheme at Westbury Fields. Sommerville is home to around 50 residents, who enjoy independent living with a range of support services.

Care Homes
At Cote Lane, The Garden House provides accommodation for 50 residents. This purpose-built complex houses the physiotherapy and hydrotherapy department, which offers valuable and effective treatments to residents who have had a medical referral from their GP or other medical consultant.

At Westbury Fields, John Wills House is home to 60 residents, 30 of whom are longer term residents, 15 who occupy a specialist dementia wing. The remaining beds are available for our short-term care service. Residents living here also benefit from the physiotherapy service, which offers regular treatments on-site. Access to the hydrotherapy pool at Cote Lane is easily arranged for those who need it.

Care and Support at Home
The Trust has also become increasingly aware that for many people, leaving their own home just because they need a little help from time to time is not always necessary. A team of personal carers has recently been established to offer a home visiting service for people in the Bristol area, providing home care services that will enable them to maintain their independence at home for as long as possible.

Community Support Scheme
The St. Monica Trust also enables people living within the wider community of Bristol and the surrounding counties to lead fuller lives through financial support in the form of short-term grants or gifts.
See 'Grants' for more details.
